A fresh plot to cause a stir within the leadership circle of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Imo State seems to have crumbled.

In other words, a foiled “coup’ to change who takes charge of the party in the State ahead of the 2023 elections, did not eventually see the light of the day.

A local newspaper had reported on Friday that some stakeholders in the party had pushed for the “overthrow”of Emeka Ihedioha, as overall leader of the PDP in the State.

They argued that it is time for the PDP in Imo State to have a new face for the 2023 elections.

Hon.Ezenwa Onyewuchi, Senator representing Owerri zone, was fingered in the newspaper report by some stakeholders, to be the ideal new leader of the party, who has been prevailed on to take over from Ihedioha

But the Senator ostensibly sensing a ploy to pitch him against Ihedioha, refuted the report in an unsigned statement circulated on social media by one of his aides.

The statement titled “Ihedioha Remains Leader of Imo PDP” quoted the Senator to have said that “Ihedioha remains the PDP leader in Imo State and the party leadership is not in dispute”

According to him, “the PDP at the moment is focused on returning Imo on the path of good governance as demonstrated by the just truncated Ihedioha administration”

He said ‘he and other leaders of the party have submitted to the leadership of the party under Ihedioha, describing him as not just a leader of PDP in Imo State but also a national asset and pride of Ndi Igbo.

But those who push for a new face in the PDP in the State argue that the PDP in the State needs fresh blood to excel in 2023.

One of them who spoke on condition of anonymity said “If the PDP must make a headway in 2023, we cannot continue recycling a particular candidate at every governorship election”
