Court Reinstated Imo LGA Chairmen Fail To Take Over

Despite the order of the Federal High Court, Owerri, which reinstated Local Government Chairmen and councilors elected during the reign of former Governor Rochas Okorocha, the interim management committee appointed by Governor Hope Uzodinma still remain in charge of the Councils.

Our reporters gathered that the reinstated Chairmen did not take over the Councils as expected.

They had stormed the LGAs to retake the Councils in January 2020 when the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice had issued a directive ordering the return of the Chairmen. They were however resisted by the Interim Management Committee Chairmen and Councillors appointed by the PDP led government of Emeka Ihedioha.

Reports indicate that the reinstated Chairmen may have soft pedaled the option of taking over he Councils on the basis that Governor Hope Uzodinma still has the right to appeal the judgment.

The Chairmen had in statement promised to work harmoniously with Governor Uzodinma since they belong to the same political party.

In a statement signed on behalf of the reinstated Chairmen by Hon Chief Obidigbo Emeka Osuorji, the group said “With the Federal High Court Judgement, we expect the governor, being also a frontline beneficiary of Court Judgement, would obey the Judgement, especially when we are all of the same Political Party”
