Okorocha’s Camp Pick Holes In South East APC Owerri Meeting

There are clearer indications that there may be existing crack among some political actors in the South East chapter of the All Progressive Congress, APC.

Former Governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha, Senate Chief Whip and former Governor of Abia State,Senator  Orji Uzor Kalu, and members of National Assembly caucus of the APC in the South East were absent at APC South East Leaders meeting convened by Governor Hope Uzodinma in Owerri.

No reason was given for their absence.

However, those who attended the Owerri meeting include former Senate President, Senator Ken Nnamani, Minister of Science and Technology, Dr.Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr.Chris Ngige, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of State, Mines and Development, Dr.Uche Ogah, Minister of State, Education, Dr.Emeka Nwajiuba, and other party stalwarts from the South East.

One of Okorocha’s publicists who also claim to be Publicity Secretary of a faction of the APC in Imo State, FCC Jones Onwusoanya, in a post on facebook, said the meeting does not confer the leadership of South East APC on Governor Hope Uzodinma.

He wrote “Some fifth columnists and renowned political contractors within our Party, the All Progressives Congress, have continued to bandy the wrong narrative that the visit to Imo State Government House by some leaders of the All Progressives Congress from the zone, somehow confers the leadership of the Party in the Southeast to Governor Hope Uzodimma

He added that similar meetings aimed at strengthening the APC in the South East have been ongoing.

He said “There have been meetings between the same set of APC leaders, including other national leaders and governors with His Excellency Owelle Rochas Okorocha, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, Senator Ifeanyi Ararume and other strategic leaders of the Party from Imo State and the Southeast. These meetings shall continue”.

He claimed that the meeting was in “line with the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari, which urged the Party to pursue peace with all Party leaders and, as much as possible reconcile all contending interests, by forging a strong coalition among Party members”.

He also picked holes in the South East APC leaders meeting saying it “could also pass as a fact-finding visit by the Southeast Party leaders, and if it is, then, they must have noticed how popular the governor has made the Party in the State, within the last seven months of his administration.

“As leaders whose sapience is not in doubt, I believe they must have left Owerri with a clear impression and the right information. They should know best what recommendations to make and what corrections to recommend” he wrote.
