The state congress of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, holds on August 1st, 2020, according to a document titled ” Year 2020 Outstanding Congresses”, which emanated from the party.
This has set the stage for horse trading and underground political maneuverings as the party gets set to elect new State Executives to reposition it ahead of 2023 guber polls.
However, the intensity of the contest has degenerated to a low ebb, as fake list containing names of the new party executives surfaced on the social media on Thursday. Some party chieftains whose names appeared on the list promptly denied knowledge of it describing it as a “joke”
The list surfaced after unconfirmed reports that a former Minister may have been penciled as the next State Chairman of the party, a move strongly opposed by younger elements in the party, who argue that the PDP in Imo State needs a “younger figure to be able to confront a ruthless ruling party like the All Progressive Congress, APC”
However, some party leaders who spoke to this newspaper on condition of anonymity insist that the incoming officials of the party at the state level will be elected by delegates as stipulated in the party’s constitution.
The ward and local government congresses have been held amidst complains from some dissenting camps within the fold of the party.
