Imo Politics: Why We Dragged RAP To Court, Lawyer, Others Give Reasons

For distracting Governor Hope Uzodinma, a lawyer and some human rights activists have dragged the Reformed and Advancement Party, RAP, and it’s 2019 governorship candidate in Imo State, Barr. Kingdom Okere, to court.

Those who instituted the suit are Barr Ikechukwu Nwaopara,Felix N.Orji and Ihunyere Solomon.

In suit no FHC/OW/CS/87/2020, the lawyers accused Okere and RAP of distracting the Governor.

The plaintiffs asked the court to ascertain the status of RAP since it has been de registered by INEC due to its inability to meet the provisions of section 225 (a) (b) (C) of the 1999 Constitution as amended at the 2019 general election.

Some of the Reliefs sought by the lawyer and others, include a declaration by the Court that the Reform and Advancement Party (RAP) is no longer a duly recognized and registered political party in Nigeria since having been de-registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for not meeting up with the required statutory benchmark for political parties as contained in s.225.

They argued that since Mr.Okere is not a member of the APC, whosoever the APC fields as its candidate shouldn’t be his business, as it is the internal affairs of the APC and that common sense ought to tell him that the very moment Uche Nwosu accepted the guber ticket of the Action Alliance, was the moment he officially relinquished the APC ticket to Senator Hope Uzodinma whose name was eventually on the APC ballot paper.
