Despite Resistance,Imo PDP Chieftains Insist On Ex Minister As Party Chairman

BY KEN UWAKWE

Top egg heads of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, seem bent on installing a former Minister as Chairman of the party in the State.

This newspaper gathered that a top chieftain and an influential leader of the party in the State had swayed support for the 68 old ex Minister at a strategic meeting held in Abuja.

A source privy to the meeting said several reasons were canvassed why the choice of the Ex Minister as Imo PDP Chairman is ‘ideal’ for the party.

A source said “He may be old but he has capacity. He can mobilize resources to lead this party because he is an influential figure in the industrial sector.

” The experience he has it, and we can only entrust this party into the hands of a seasoned politician. You cannot tell me that someone who was Governorship candidate of the party in the past will not be able to cope with the dynamics involved in leading a big political party such as the PDP in the State” said a source who was privy to the meeting.

However, the PDP on Tuesday released a 174 member committee to hold the State congresses scheduled to hold on Saturday, at Nwankwo Kanu sports complex, Owerri.

There has been intense campaign by other contenders for the plum job such as Chuks Ajaelu, Chris Nwokeike (Iroko), Prof Obioma Iheduru and Ngozi Ogbu
