There are strong indications that plot to impose a former Minister as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Imo State, may hit a brickwall.

The younger elements in the party, this newspaper learnt, are opposed to the move, wondering why at a time the party needs a youth with the firepower to recapture power for the party from the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, there are moves to impose an aged person on the party.

“Is PDP preparing it’s death sentence if it resorts to the practice of imposing a State Chairman” said a Youth leader in one of the wards in Okigwe zone said.

This newspaper had reported that some leaders of the party have concluded plans to impose a former Minister and one time Governorship candidate of the party,as State Party Chairman at the forthcoming State Congress.

Barely a week to the Congress, the party has kept mum on the allegations, feuling speculations that indeed the plot could be real after all.

Some party members who spoke on condition of anonymity said such a plan will affect the PDP ahead of the 2023 polls.

Another Youth leader in one of the wards in Okigwe zone who spoke on condition of anonymity said ” We ask for a level playing ground. There is no need for imposition. Let’s us all go to the Congress and whosoever emerges Chairman carries the day. My personal opinion is, we need a youth, a younger fellow to lead this party at this period

As at the time of filing this report, more than five persons are eying the State Chairmanship of the party.

They are former Minister of Commerce and Industries, Charles Ugwuh, Chief Chuks Ajaelu, Hon.Ngozi Ogbu, Prof Emma Iheduru and others.
