The intensity in the race for Okigwe senate seat has increased as investigations by this newspaper reveal that about 15 men and women, adjudged reputable and credible Okigwe sons and daughter, have plunged into the race to become the next Senator of the zone.
Three political parties are key contenders in the race- the All Progressive Congress, APC, the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA. The APC have more of the aspirants.
Among those in the race include Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, Ikeoha Emma Okewulonu, Mrs Chidinma Uwajumuogu, Hon Chikwem Onuoha, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, Hon Bright Nwachukwu, Chief Eze Okoro, Senator Athan Achonu, Hon Matthew Omegara, Rt Hon Acho Ihim, Hon Patrick Ndubueze, Hon. Frank Ibezim, Hon. Henry Ikokwu, Chief Cosmas Iwu, Attorney Oyirimba.
The aspirants are mainly in the APC and the PDP, while Onyirimba seems to be the sole sole contender in the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA.
The aspirants are getting set for the party primary which is expected to produce the party’s flagbearers as a prelude to the election proper which holds on October 31st
