The Imo State Police Command, Owerri, says it’s has apprehended 15 persons armed with guns and other dangerous weapons and who masqueraded as staff of Imo State oil Producing Development Commission,ISOPADEC, who attacked the convoy of Governor Hope Uzodinma on Monday.
This as the State government claimed that those who attacked the Governor’s convoy under the guise of protesters were sponsored by the opposition as evident in the arrest made by the State Police Command.
According to Declan Emelumba, State Commissioner of Information and Strategy, luck ran out of the hoodlums when they ran into the Governor’s convoy enroute to the military barracks in Obinze.
The Governor was headed to the Army barracks to commission an officers Mess complex built by the State government.
Emelumba said they were hired thugs by the opposition wondering how those claiming to be ISOPADEC staff could arm themselves with guns and machetes.
He said “the opposition is smarting from the irredeemable shame the government’s successes is rubbing on their face and they quickly thought of another protest to take the shine out of the increasingly unbeatable trajectory of Governor Uzodinma’s success story”
However,the State Commissioner of Police, Isaac Akinmoyede, said the hoodlums attacked the Governor’s convoy and damaged windscreens of some the vehicles in the convoy.
