‘FMC May Be Upgraded To Teaching Hospital’

Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, may soon be upgraded to a Teaching Hospital.

This was revealed by the Senate Committee Chairman on Health,  Senator Ibrahim Oloriegbe when he led members of the Committee on inspection tour of facilities at the center.

He said the nation’s stands to benefit immensely if the FMC is upgraded.

“Plans are in top gear to upgrade the centre to a Teaching Hospital. The center do have the site and the human resources are available.

The Senator added that his Committee would also strive to raise the budgetary allocation of the centre in the 2021 budget.

“The centre has several ongoing projects, we will do little now but in the 2021 budget we will see how to support and see most of these projects are completed in record time” he said.  

Senator Oloriegbe said the Committee will explore the possibility of partnership with the management to know how some of the projects would come under private partnership.
