I am a product of Imo State University (IMSU). During my years in the university, I passed through a lot of humiliation from some overzealous lecturers. Some who hardly come to class will mandate us to buy their expensive text books. It was a norm then in my department for anyone who fails yo buy their textbooks to fail their course. In fact, it was a horrible state of things. Thank God the rest is now history.
Despite all these horrible experiences, I will say in all honesty, I really enjoyed my time as an undergraduate in IMSU. The school taught me a lot of things. I became a brand after my years in IMSU. One outstanding thing about IMSU graduates is that; they are always digital, outspoken, sound eta’l.
Just recently, news broke out about some lecturers who were caught on camera having sex with some female students. The video footage which went viral was demeaning, I felt so ashamed seeing a Doctorate degree holder indulging in such a cruel and irritating act in his office.
Messing up a doctorate degree he went through tick and tin to get for a 5-10minutes pleasure. What an irony! These lecturers have brought shame to their communities, families, the school authority and even the academic community.I feel the trauma their various families will be passing through because if their unethical behaviors.Their wives may file a divorce after seeing their husbands naked on camera. The depression will be severe one.I must sincerely thank the school authority for suspending these lecturers. They should not stop at the suspension.
They should set up a panel to carry out a thorough investigation on these lecturers, and other lecturers who also indulge in this cruel practice. This will go a long way in checking sexual harassment in our tertiary institutions. It will amount to effort in futility if we fail to address certain issues that triggers sexual harassment in our tertiary institutions.
Back in the 80’s, when we were young, it was an aberration to see a woman’s laps or her breast. Our mothers then had so much respect for their private parts, they valued it more than any other thing. This was the simple practice until of late, when some of our young ladies now prefer going half naked in the streets. They want yo expose their private parts for all to see as if a fresh tomatoes displayed for sale at Ekeonuwa market.I grew up in a Christian home, where Christianity is the most spoken language. Going in to the university as young person, I always reached out to my parents whenever I’m faced with any tough challenge until my second year when I became the real undergraduate.I lived in a hostel where female students almost appear naked.
At a time, I decided to be staying indoors in order not be exposing my eyes to some certain things which were against my believe as a renowned Anglican. At a time, my hostel then turned to what may would call a female naked zone. Some will come out with pant to sit outside to smoke Indian hemp with some male friends.Sincerely, to stay in these hostels without engaging in some of these social vices was the grace of God.
An environment where female students smoke Indian hemp, cigarettes, take all types of hard drugs eta’l. I overcame those tough challenges because I was never moved by them. Thank God for my life.Practically speaking,
Prince C. C. Nwogu might have controlled himself what about others, would they do the same? They answer is exactly NO! You may want to emotionally say Yes but, is a NO in a ramifications. When a beautiful young Lady dresses half naked before a supposed lecturer what do you think will happen? We must jettison emotions and answer the hard question the hard way. Negative will always attract Positive! Their no two ways about it.Just recently, I was invited to cover a scholarship program by some illustrious sons of my place, at Oke-Ovoro Secondary School Aboh Mbaise, the scholarship was for SS3 students.
While the program was ongoing, I stepped out to make a call, I saw this young girl seated outside, she will be around 17-19 years, her breast was almost open, with her trousers that was showing everything she was putting on inside. The top she was putting on couldn’t even cover her stomach. She was almost naked. I quickly approached her to know while she will dress in such a manner to school environment. She told me that she came to collect her WAEC result, according to her, she sat for WAEC in the school the previous year. I now asked her if she will go to the Principal’s office with such attire. Loo and behold, she said yes. I called one of the female teacher around to complain to her, she came and immediately sent the girl home.It was an aberration seeing a young girl dressed in such manner to see her principal. When some of these urchins go to the office’s of these men, the end up seducing them.
We are humans and no man who is healthy is IMMUNED to seduction. Your body must be moved when you see something attractive. Is normal. Most of us experience it. Some men don’t go to night clubs because of the fear of not wanting patronize commercial sex workers. They know that after taking alcohol they might be moved to go into what ordinarily, they may not want to do, so they stay away from temptation of children of DIBIA UWA.
When you take a critical look at the way most ladies appear in lecture halls before lecturers, you might be forced to justify some of this sexual harassment cases but, due to our believe we can’t justify evil not minding conditions that necessitated such occurrence, is just like justifying stealing in the name of been hungry. No, we can’t. We must continue to condemn evil at all times as people of God.But we must also be proactive in the fight against sexual harassment in our tertiary institutions.
Our ladies must stop tempting our lecturers. Our school authorities must start a strong war against indecent dressing. Female students who come to classes with seductive dresses should be expelled. We can’t justify the evil acts of some of these ladies and only cast aspersions on the lecturers. The female folks can put an end to this ugly act which is fast becoming a norm by dressing properly to lectures. We can always do better by been proactive. We are Overcomers as people of God.
