A Watchdog group based in Owerri, Imo Awareness Coalition, IAC, has advised Governor Hope Uzodinma,to step up the pace of governance in the State.
The IAC, in it’s quaterly report, signed by Fidelis Echendu, Publicity Secretary of the Coalition and sent to INNONEWS, stated that “though the present government has stabilized and showed direction, it has to increase the pace of governance to enable the people of the State feel it’s impact.
“Staggered payment of salaries, slow snail approach to payment of pensioners are cumulative factors, portraying the present administration in bad light among the populace.
“We advise that the process of ensuring that all workers are paid and pensioners in the state are settled should be expedited, in order to change the narrative that the government is unfeeling about the plight of the people.
The IAC said that eight months in the life of any government provides ample time to move the State forward.
“Eight months in the life of any government, is a good time for such administration to place the State on the pedestal of progress and advancement.
“Priority on infrastructural development and a road map to take the State away from a public service driven economy to private sector based, should be top priority for this administration.
“This would reduce dependence on government and expand the economic base of the State to be able to cope with daunting challenges such as unemployment, particularly among the youths of the State.
“There is stagnancy in the air in Imo State and this can be attributed to emphasis and priority placed by this government on politicking rather than issues pertaining to governance even when the next political dispensation is years away.
“We strongly advise the Governor to energize government Ministries, Agencies and Parastatals, through provision of subventions and imprests to quicken the pace of government activities in the State.
“The wheels of government grinds so slow in the State at the moment due to the inability of government agencies to function at optimum level because of little or no funding.
“We however salute the Governor’s courage in tackling decaying infrastructure in the State, particularly roads, which has received considerable attention through reconstruction of some roads in Owerri Municipal and environs.
“However, we call for a holistic approach to infrastructural rearmament in the State through proactive measures to build and repair ailing infrastructure” IAC noted in it’s quaterly report
