As the dust over the controversial All Progressive Congress, APC Primary for Okigwe senate election is yet to settle, the party’s senatorial candidate, Frank Ibezim, joined other aspirants ,who lost in the contest to visit Governor Hope Uzodinma at Government House, Owerri, Friday.
The Primary had produced two candidates- Frank Ibezim and Senator Araraume- but the National Caretaker Committee titled in Ibezim’s favour, insisting that it will only accept the results of the primary conducted by Senator Bisuriu led Primary Election Committee.
Before the Primary, this newspaper learnt that Governor Hope Uzodinma, had made moves to get a consensus candidate at a meeting he convened at Government House, Owerri with the aspirants.
Sources said the option failed as the aspirants demanded for a free and fair Primary. He was said to have attempted to impose his choice candidate, a move which did not go through as some of the aspirants staged a walk out.
However, with the Primary over and Ibezim returned as the party’s flagbearer, some of the aspirants Friday returned to Government House to visit the Governor perhaps to pledge support to the party’s candidate.
Details of the meeting were unknown as at press time but it was gathered that the Governor may have pleaded with them to sheath their sword and support Ibezim.
Reports however quoted the Governor to have said that “Imo State is APC and because it is accepted by the citizens of the state, there is no reason for us not to win every election”
Those in attendance at the meeting include Matthew Omegara, Uchendu Mark Chijioke, Uche Uba, Eze Okoro, Bright Nwachukwu, Chikwem Onuoha and Acho Ihim.
Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, who is insisting that he is the winner of the Primary was absent at the meeting.
