Details emerged Monday on plans by the Imo State government to rebuild the ancestral Eke Ukwu Owerri market.
The market was demolished in 2017 by the Rochas Okorocha administration.
Somtochukwu Ibeanusi, a 10 year old boy, was killed during the demolition of the market which attracted local and international codemnation.
Goods worth over N1 billion naira was also lost during the demolition.
The Uzodinma administration had promised to rebuild the market by engaging the services of a firm to build over 2,000 stalls.
Governor Uzodinma met with leaders, stakeholders, chiefs, community leaders and women groups of Owerri municip, at the premises of the market, where he reeled out plans to reconstruct it to the admiration of Indigenes of Owerri.
At a ground breaking ceremony to kick start th reconstruction of the market, the Governor said the Eke Ukwu market, Owerri will be rebuilt in 18 Months by modern engineers.
According to him, the new look market will have a fire service station, a Police post, warehouse, lock up shops, and other facilities.
