The Imo Awareness Coalition, a watchdog group based in Imo State, has said the N6billion naria youth empowerment programme announced by the State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, for Imo youths, is a welcome development.

The Coalition however advised that the funds be deployed appriorately

Governor Hope Uzodinma, in a broadcast, Saturday, said N2billion will be released immediately for the immediate take off of the Youth programme.

He said the funds will be deployed for the training of the first batch of the beneficiaries which will commence next week.

Spokesman of the Coalition, Mr. Fidelis Echendu,in a telephone interview, said the programme should be embraced by Imo youths, stating that “such a programme is better coming now than never”

“The youth programme announced by the governor, coming now, is better than it never came. It is pathetic that our youths had to protest on the streets before a programme that touches on their welfare is unveiled for them.

“This should not be so. We do not have details of the programme, but we believe the State government, is beginning to respond to numerous problems of our youths by taking proactive steps.

“We believe it is a first step, a major step in the right direction.  We call on the state government to sustain the programme to make it worthwhile and ensure it achieves the aims and objectives
