It was observed that no politician, irrespective of political leaning in Imo State, including perennial public office seekers, spoke in support of the demands of the genuine Endsars protesters in Imo State.
It was curiously observed that none of them identified with the demands of the youths, or even showed up where the protests took place, to show solidarity.
One had expected that since politicians in Imo State engage some of our youths during elections, either as thugs, or social media rats, it would not have been out of place if they had identified with the youths at a time they agitated what they felt was their right.
But lo and behold, none of them came close or even spoke in their favour. This raised concern if indeed, Imo politicians, actually went into hiding during the Endsars protests in the State for fear of victimization or molestation by the youths.
During elections, most of our politicians promise heaven and earth to our youths. This is why it is really strange that none of them spoke in their favour when the Endsars protests raged on in the state. Rather, what was observed was studded silence and deliberate shying away.
It was also observed as reported in the media, that members of the state legislature, rather went into hiding and suspended legislative activities, even before the curfew was imposed in the state by the Governor.
Government appointees were also not seen on the roads with official vehicles for fear of molestation. What does this teach our youths? If our politicians cannot identify with our youths at a time they are seeking for a better tomorrow, then why become their errand tools when they seek for elective offices?
The Endsars protests should serve as an eye opener to our youths in Imo State, as it is a revelation that our politicians only need the youths for their selfish gains and purposes.
