- Ohaneze Ndi Igbo is expected to elect a new President in January 2021

Imo State is making an audacious move to produce the next President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, as three aspirants are interested to vie for the number one job of the apex pan Igbo socio political organization.
Ohaneze Ndi igbo is expected to elect a new President in January 2021, and Imo State, by rotation of the presidency of the organization, is due to produce a successor to John Nnia Nwodo, the current President.
Despite expectations that the election will hold in January, surprisingly it did not come up at a strategic meeting of Igbo leaders held at Government House, Enugu, where prominent Igbo leaders such as State Governors, Ministers, senators attended.
However, three aspirants from Imo State, Prof George Obiozor, former Nigeria Ambassador to the United States, a former Vice Chancellor of Imo State University, IMSU, Prof Ukachukwu Awuzie, are said to be interested in the contest.
The duo have not come out openly to announce their intentions to be leader of Ohaneze.
A former Secretary General of the organization, Dr.Jeo Nworgu, has openly announced his ambition. At a meeting with his kinsmen in Ngor Okpala LGA, he said he is the right man for the job having served as Secretary General of the organization.
“Igbo Nation At Cross Roads, May The Best Emerge”- SECG
A group, South East Coalition For Good Governance, SECG, has called on the apex Igbo organization to ensure only the best emerge the next President of the organization.
SECG President, Ernest Emeleumba, said what is paramount for the Igbo nation at the moment is to actualize the quest of the region to produce the next President of Nigeria in 2023.
“Igbo nation is at crossroads of her political destiny. This period is our defining moment, and we must give attention, to issues of serious concern to Igbo nation. This is why if there is any need for a new President of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo to emerge, we must ensure he is one who can capture the collective resolve of the Igbo.
“We are not opposed to an election of a new Ohaneze President if that is what the Constitution of the organization stipulates, but we must understand these are trying times for the Igbo nation and we need a purposeful Ohaneze leadership to navigate the interest of our people” Emeleumba said.
