Speaker Collins was elected to the House on the platform of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA in 2019.

He alongside some members decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, when Rt Hon. Emeka Ihedioha was sworn in as governor of Imo State.

He, with other members also dumped the PDP for the APC, when the Supreme Court sacked Ihedioha from office and replaced him with Senator Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressive Congress, APC.
