In line with the role sports journalists play to aid football development and administration in the state, the Imo State Football Association, FA have resolved to partner Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Imo State chapter.
Mr Ndubuisi Opara, the Acting Chairman, Organizing Committee of Imo State FA stated this on Wednesday at a crucial meeting he held with Imo State executive members of SWAN led by its Chairman, Everest Ezihe at the Conference Room of the Association’s Secretariat,Dan Anyiam Stadium Complex, Owerri.
Opara, a ex-grassroot, cum international football player and administrator, recalled the role some sports journalists played in the course of his career and his colleagues during their active playing days.
He pointed out that football is a media event and expressed regret why his association in the past neglected carrying along sporting journalists in most of their activities. He assured that henceforth, such act would not repeat under his watch.
The Acting Chairman outlined programmes of the year which the FA intends to undertake which include a youth League to select players that would represent the state for the South East U-13 and U- 15 tournament.
He appealed to Football Club owners in the state on the need to affiliate their clubs with the on going FA Youth League.
Opara also announced that the State League registration is on going and that the FA Administrators in the 27 LGAs of the State have been empowered to ensure their endorsement of all clubs and competitions operating within their council areas.
He further revealed plans of rectifying the state’s female teams to enable them compete in Female League
The Acting Chairman revealed his association’s efforts to organize a seminar for Match Commissioners on or before the end of the month, while cautioning clubs against dealing directly with Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Abuja without recourse to the state FA.
Opara noted that as part of the efforts to sanitize football administration in the state, all veteran football clubs should be affiliated with the State FA
In his response, Ezihe assured the management of Imo State FA of the willingness of his members to partner with them.
