As the next political dispensation draws near, the South East Coalition for Good Governance, SECGG has advised Igbo politicians, desirous to vie for the Nigerian presidency in 2023, to stop being scared of joining the presidential race by stepping forward and declare their presidential ambition.
In a statement in Owerri, co coordinator of the group, Fidelis Ukandu, said it is strange that despite the agitation by the South East to rightly aspire for the presidency in 2023, no Igbo son or daughter, has had the courage to declare for the presidential contest in 2023.
“Igbo nation must demonstrate its seriousness to run for the presidency in 2023 and the only way to show this, is for those interested from Igboland to come forward and declare their ambition
“Bola Tinubu is not hiding his intention to aspire for the Presidency and he has carried on with it without any fear.Former Ogun State Governor, Segun Osoba, had alleged that no Igbo has indicated interest in the contest despite the agitation for an Igbo President in 2023, and it seems he is saying the truth because, barely two years to the contest, no one from Igbo land has showed sufficient green-light to convince us that he will contest for the Presidency in 2023.
“Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has not hidden his desire to run again for the presidency in 2023. Why should those interested in the presidency from Igbo land shy away from the race?. This is 2021. Any serious aspirant for the presidency must have begun some political consultations to show his or her seriousness for the contest. Atiku and Tinubu are already doing that and there is no one doing so from Igbo land.
Ukandu advised politicians from Igboland scheming to be Vice President to drop such intention, as the demand of a Nigerian President of Igbo extraction in 2023, is not negotiable.
“What we hear are meetings and meetings convened by several political groups and individuals in Igboland passing the same message. No one from Igboland has stepped into the ring or indicated interest to contest” Ukandu said.
