Editors of Imo state based newspapers and online outfits, have advised Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi, who represents Owerri zone at the senate, to show his projects to the media.
The Editors also fumed at a recent parley between the Senator and a group of journalists, who impersonated the Editors Forum in the State.
A statement by the Editors under the umbrella of Forum of Imo Based Newspaper Editors, FINE, signed by its caretaker committee chairman and Secretary, Chinedu Egere and Chigozie Uzosike respectively, the Forum stated “clearly that the group of selected journalists, whom Senator Onyewuchi interacted with, are not members of Forum of Imo Based Newspaper Editors, FINE, the apex Editors Forum in Imo State and an affiliate of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ”
“Though Senator Onyewuchi has the right to interact with journalists, we are stunned how FINE was impersonated at the parley”
The Forum advised the Senator to show his projects to the media, in order to erase the notion that projects of some legislators in the State exist on the internet.
“The Senator has consistently brandished his numerous projects at very fora. FINE implores him to showcase these projects to the media. And we offer to embark on an assessment tour of these projects in Owerri zone, to ascertain their existence and functionality, to douse growing suspicion that some of our legislators showcase “internet projects”, the statement stated.
The Editors said henceforth it has beamed its searchlight on elected and appointed public office holders.
“It is instructive to note that FINE, as part of its social responsibilities, is extending its searchlight on public holders in the State, who hold the mandate of the people on trust, and we will not shirk on our responsibilities, as Editors, if we fail to draw attention of the mandate of the elected and appointed public officials in the State’
“The Forum has also insisted that elected representatives at all levels must ensure that campaign promises are kept and the citizens carried along in governance as power belongs to the people” the statement concluded
