Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo Crisis Gets Messy, Faction Drags Obiozor To Court

An Abuja High Court has been approached to order Prof George Obiozor, to stop parading himself as President General of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo.

Obiozor was elected President General of the apex pan Igbo organization last week in Owerri. A faction of the organization had announced a former Commissioner in Imo State, Chidi Ibeh as its leader.

In a motion On Notice FCT/HC/BIU/M/21 brought against the President General of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo and the Incorporated Trustees Of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo, the applicants sought an order of the court to restrain Prof Obiozor and his privies or any other from parading himself pending the determination of the substantive suit.

The Uche Okwuaku faction of Ohaneze which initiated the court action, faulted the emergence of Prof Obiozor, urged the Court to declare the election of Obiozor illegal

The faction in its originating summons, prayed the court to among other things for interpretation of Article 10, 11, 14 and 21 of the Constitution of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo, brought pursuant to Order 2 Rules 1, 3 and 4 of the Federal High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (Civil procedure) Rules 2018 and section 6 (6b) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Court has fixed January 21, 2021 for hearing of the matter.
