The week, February 14- 20, was an eventual one in Imo State, and the South East in general.

Military Airstrikes In Orlu

There were reports of airstrikes by the Nigerian Military in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State. The Imo State Government later claimed that it invited the military to flush out members of Eastern Security Network, ESN in the area.

Cyprian Akaolisa, Imo State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, said the military targets were ESN members who he accused of looting arms and killing people.

Imo Assembly Renames EPU University To K.O Mbadiwe Varsity.

The Imo State House of Assembly renamed the Eastern Palm University, Ogboko, in Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State.

A bill for a law to rename the university was presented by the Deputy Majority leader of the House and member representing Ehime Mbano State Constituency, Emeka Nduka during plenary on Wednesday

The bill was given accelerated hearing and passed into law.

Former Governor of Imo State and Senator representing Imo West Senatorial zone, Senator Rochas Okorocha, whose foundation, Rochas Okorocha foundation, owns the varsity alleged foul play.

Imo State Govt Seals Eastern Palm University.

The Imo State government sealed off the Royal Palm Estate, linked to the wife of former Governor of Imo State, Nneoma Rochas Okorocha.

State Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Physical Development, Barr Enyinnaya Onuegbu, said the sealing of the estate is in line with the recommendation contained in a Government White Paper of the Justice Duruohaigwe led Judicial Panel on Lands and Other Related Matters, which was debated and adopted by the Imo State Executive Council.

Court Quashes Jude Agbaso’s Impeachment.

The Imo State High Court, Owerri quashed the impeachment of the former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Jude Agbaso.

The judgement was an offshoot of an agreement between the State government, the State House of Assembly and Mr. Agbaso.

Agbaso was impeached on March 28, 2013 by the State House of Assembly following the recommendation of the seven-man impeachment panel set up by then state Chief Judge, Justice Benjamin Njemanze, which investigated the allegations of gross misconduct levelled against him by then Governor Rochas Okorocha.

The former deputy governor was accused of acts of grave corruption, including the demand of a bribe of N458 million from a contractor, J-Pross Construction Company and a bottle of Red Label Wine.

According to the counsel to Agbaso, Chijioke Emeka, his client and the defendants which included the state governor, the State House of Assembly and the chief Judge of the State also requested that the terms of settlement be used as judgement in court.

Minister, FGGC Old Girls,Owerri Unveil Modern Classroom Block

The Old Girls Association of Federal Government Girls College, FGGC, Owerri, have handed over an ultra modern classroom complex to the school authorities.

The handover is in line with other numerous projects embarked on and completed by the Old Girls Association.

Minister of State, Education, Hon Emeka Nwajiuba said the FGGC, Owerri, is the most sought secondary school in the federation.
