The Imo State government has continued its quest to reclaim the Eastern Palm University, Ogboko in Ideato South Local Government Area of Imo State, whose ownership has been a source of face off between Governor Hope Uzodimma and Senator Rochas Okorocha

Okorocha claimed he owns the varsity in partnership with the Imo State Government.

But the state government will hear none of that. And in furtherance of its pursuit to reclaim the varsity, the Imo State House of Assembly, has approved the renaming of the university to Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University.

K.O Mbadiwe was a Nigerian nationalist, politician, statesman and a First Republic Minister from Imo State.

A bill for a law to rename the university was presented by the Deputy Majority Leader of the House and member representing Ehime Mbano State University, Emeka Nduka during plenary on Wednesday.

The bill was tagged “a bill for a law to repeal the establishment of Eastern Palm University (EPU) law 2019 to enable the House to re- enact law for the establishment of K.O Mbadiwe University in Imo State and other related matters”

The bill was given accelerated hearing and passed into law, with members of the 8th Assembly accused of passing the EPU bill into law.

Former Governor of Imo State, and Senator representing Orlu zone in the senate, Senator Rochas Okorocha, had claimed that there was a  public private partnership between the State government and Rochas Okorocha foundation.
