Despite Sack As Eze Imo, Eze Ohiri Joins Sultan, Obi Of Onitsha, Others To Meet Buhari

Eze Samuel Ohiri, the ousted Chairman of Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, was among prominent traditional rulers in the country, such as Sultan Of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, Emir of Kano, HRH Aminu Ado Bayero, Oni of Ife, Oba Adedeye Ogunwusi Ojaja 11, the Obi of Onitsha, HRM Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, who visited President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Monarchs met the President on Thursday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja under the auspices of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria.

Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma had in December 2020, dissolved the Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers led by Ohiri.

A statement issued then by Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, had disclosed that Uzodimma acted in line with the amended law on the Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, which empowered the governor to appoint members of the council.

“In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, social rules of engagement as contained in Federal Government’s regulatory instrument, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the state government, the state traditional rulers council has been dissolved,” Emelumba’s statement had stated.

According to the Commissioner, Uzodimma had directed chairmen of the traditional institution at the local government level to act in place of the council, pending the constitution of a new leadership in accordance with provisions of the new law.

Ohiri, the Traditional Ruler of Orodo community in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State was appointed Chairman, Council of Traditional Rulers by former Governor Rochas Okorocha.

It could not be ascertained in what capacity did Eze Ohiri attend the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria after his removal as Chairman, Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers.
