The plan to recall the senator representing Imo West Senatorial District, Rochas Okorocha may suffer a setback following the altercation between two groups over who among them has the patent to execute the project.

One of the two groups, Orluzurumee Youths Assembly (OYA) which kicked off the recall project in 2019 at the weekend reached for the jugular of Orlu Political Consultative Assembly (OPOCA), accusing it of usurping its project.

OYA had started the recall project setting up a seven-member committee on 1st September, 2019 to interface with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the purpose of the recall.

The committee was also mandated to collate data, petitions and signatures of eligible voters and engage with all critical stakeholders and create awareness for the recall.

It was equally mandated to ensure that there was a landslide victory during the recall plebiscite and to do any other thing which it shall deem necessary to achieve the recall.

The OYA in a statement disclosed that it also wrote to inform the INEC of the recall process and requested it to act in line with the provisions of Section 69 of the 1999 Constitution and open a recall register for the purpose.

According to OYA, its letter which was dated September 27, 2019 was received and an acknowledgement copy signed and stamped by the commission.

The youth body said having accomplished all these fundamental processes, it had become the only legally permissible body with the patent to speak and act on this subject.

It frowned at OPOCA for attempting to hijack its project, saying it is criminal for anybody to impersonate it.

The statement signed by Sylvester Anyikwa, National President and Obinna Nnajiuba (Agbogidi), Publicity Secretary informed  it had begun consultations with stakeholders in Orlu Zone aimed at building consensus on the informed position of Orlu people with respect to the recall.

OPOCA revived the issue of recalling Senator Okorocha following his alleged unsealing of Royal Spring Palm Hotel, Owerri after the state government had sealed it.

It vowed it would ensure the first successful recall was recorded in the country using Okorocha as an example.
