A watchdog, Imo Awareness Coalition, IAC has advised Governor Hope Uzodimma, not to limit governance in the state “to just construction, rehabilitation of roads and payment of salaries and pensions”
Fidelis Echendu, spokesman of the Coalition told INNONEWS in Owerri that “the present government has excessively focused on payment of salaries and pensions, engaged in roads construction in the state, leaving out other sectors of the Imo economy
“It is also regrettable that payment of workers salaries and the attendant complaints and protests by some workers, seems to be contradicting acclaimed efforts of the government to meet up with this task
“However, payment of salaries is the priority of any government and should not be the sing song alone of of this administration.
“We acknowledge the improvement of critical infrastructure in the state capital by the present government, but we discovered that other sectors of the economy seem to be in limbo
“What is going on in the agriculture sector? What has the administration done in education, health, human capital development, rural development? These are critical sectors of the Imo economy and we demand concerted action in these sectors.
“The NBS in its latest report said Imo State is the employment capital of Nigeria.What is the response mechanism of government to checkmate it? We hear nothing. What is the roadmap for women and youth empowerment in Imo State as the present administration goes for a second year in office?
“The globe celebrated World Womens’ Day last week and there was no event organized by the state government to galvanize our women? We had expected the government to give us update on various sectors of Imo economy while celebrating the past one year in office
“This will enable us know where we are coming from and where we are going. Governance is a serious business because it is dynamic and multi dimensional.
“We need to self reinvent. We need to key into modern dynamics of governance. The rain of development is raining across the globe and Imo State is not getting wet
“What stimulus has the government put in place to reset the economy after the effects of Covid 19 in the state?
Echendu said politicking has overtaken governance in the past one year in the state, advising the state government “to energize institutions of government to enable it meet up with the core objectives of its 3R mantra anchored on Reconstruction, Recovery and Rehabilitation”
