As the next political dispensation draws near, a socio political group in Owerrri zone, Owerri Zone Patriots, have vowed to change the political narrative in the zone, vowing to ensure that the zone gets the best representative in the senate in 2023.
The group in a statement signed by Ernest Akujuo and Boniface Eke, Chairman and Secretary respectively said “Owerri zone will leave Egypt in 2023, because we are not impressed with the quality of representation of the zone at the senate, which is below the expectations of majority of the good people of Owerri zone.
The group argued that based on its conviction and resolve to ensure that Owerri zone gets quality representation at the senate in the future “it has put in place a machinery to ensure a peoples senator, irrespective of political leanings, but who enjoys majority of the support of the people emerge as their next senator for the zone in 2023
“We shall to the best of our abilities ensure that the finest,among multitude of qualified Owerri sons and daughters, eventually represent over 2 million people spread across the nine local governments in Owerri zone at the senate in 2023.
The group noted that Owerri zone is known to have sent quality persons to the senate in the past, such as Late Senator Evan Enwerem and Amah Iwuagwu, who did not only provide quality representation but left an indelible mark at the senate during their stay at the Red Chambers.
“Owerri zone is noted to have elected sound and credible persons to the Senate who performed creditably and whose representation was felt by the people of Owerri zone. Late Senator Evan Enwerem, who rose to become Senate President and Late Chief Amah Iwuagwu.
“Senator Chris Anyanwu also gave a good account of herself when she represented the zone. These men and woman of exceptional quality and character, provided quality representation to the people. As time goes on, we shall unveil sufficient reasons why Owerri zone needs the best
Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi is the current senator representing Owerri zone in the senate.
The Forum of Imo Newspaper Editors (FINE) had recently advised the Senator to show his constituency projects to the media.
“The Senator has consistently brandished his numerous projects at very fora. FINE implores him to showcase these projects to the media. And we offer to embark on an assessment tour of these projects in Owerri zone, to ascertain their existence and functionality, to douse growing suspicion that some of our legislators showcase “internet projects”,the editors had stated in their statement signed by Mr. Chinedu Egere (Chairman) and Elder Chigozie Uzosike (Secretary).
