Top leaders of the All Progressive Congress, APC in Owerri zone, are entangled in a cold war as they jostle for supremacy and relevance in Governor Hope Uzodimma’s government.
Already, there are existing skirmishes among some of the leaders of the party in the zone which could be attributed to what sources said, is linked to the possibility of Governor Hope Uzodimma shopping for a new number 2 in 2023.
Though this speculation has not been verified, but has continued to vibrate in political circles. Some top leaders of the APC in Owerri zone have been falling over themselves since the kite of shopping for a new Deputy Governor was flown.
Online reports had fingered Mr. Henry Njoku (Harritex) as among those nursing the ambition to take over the post of Prof Placid Njoku as Deputy Governor. He roundly denied the allegations, describing it as the handiwork of detractors.
Another source however told INNONEWS that the cold war in the party, is also linked to speculations that the Governor is also seeking for “a dependable arrow head in Owerri zone within the party whom he can trust and lean on”
This is said to have set the stage for leaders of the party to begin early enough to position themselves to be in the Governor’s good books ahead of the next political dispensation.
The recent altercations between billionaire businessmen, Chief Charles Amadi (Chavon) and Communications czar, Dr. Uzoma Obiyo, is part of the in fighting rocking the party in Owerri zone.
The bone of contention between the duo is the soul of the APC in Ikeduru LGA.
It was also gathered that some political heavyweights in the party from Owerri North are gaining the upper hand and have successfully won the heart of the Governor, as he listens to them whenever issues concerning the zone arise .
Sources said one of them, was a serial former governorship aspirant, while the other is a well known political leader in the zone whose son was appointed one of the numerous Special Advisers in the present government. Another is a business tycoon with an eye for politics
