Since insecurity in Imo state rose to an alarming level, some politicians in the State, who had planned to vie for various elective positions in 2023, have gone underground, suspending most of their consultations and political engagements.
This newspaper had last week reported that most of the elites in the state are still living in fear, after series of attacks by unknown gunmen on police formations in the state, including the State Police headquarters, the Correctional Centre, Owerri, and lately, the home of Governor Hope Uzodimma in Omuma, Oru East Local Government Area.
A top politician in the State and a member of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, who wants to vie for a federal seat in 2023, told this newspaper “This is not time for politicking or rather we should pray that this monster of insecurity passes us by.
“We are not used to this kind of situation, but I know with time and with the proactive security measures put in place by the Governor and the security agencies, things will be back to normal.
“This will enable some of us who intend to seek for elective office in 2023, to begin now to prepare by calling meetings of our political soulmates and associates
It was expected that with the announcement of dates for the 2023 general election, by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, recently, politicians, particularly those seeking for elective office will kick start political consultations.
