Former Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Peter Obi, has consistently advised members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to support a governorship aspirant, who is ready to transform the State and take it to greater heights.
Obi, who has been on tour of the 21 local government areas in the State, ahead of the party’s governorship primary, in his remarks at Orumba South and North LGAs, the Political stronghold Dr.Godwin Maduka, a governorship aspirant, said only an aspirant capable of leading the PDP to a resounding victory in the governorship election should be supported by party faithful, to become the party’s flagbearer.
Dr. Obi is hugely admired in Anambra State for his sterling leadership and impressive style of governance, when he governed Anambra State for eight years.
This earned him several accolades and recognition from the people, who honoured him with the title of Okwute Ndi Igbo
Political observers who closely monitored Dr Obi’s recent remarks at Dr. Maduka’s strongholds, contend that the former Governor may be impressed with his candidature, who has clearly emerged as a leading contender for the governorship ticket of the PDP.
They further argued that Dr. Maduka fits into Dr. Obi’s description.
Speaking further at the event, D. Obi was full of praise for Dr. Maduka(The Lion Of Africa) and whom he thanked immensely for according him a beffitting reception on his arrival.
The tour by Dr. Obi, is in line with steps to to rejig the PDP in the State by reaching out and interfacing with stakeholders and party faithful, to ascertain their challenges with the intention of solving them.
Some party faithful who witnessed the former Governor’s visit, say that Dr. Obi is a man whose words and advise would be of immense benefit to the party, and inspiration to party members.
Chief Vitalis Okechukwu, a PDP stalwart in Orumba LGA who witnessed the event said “Dr. Obi is a man of exceptional character. For him to tell us, here in Orumba, the home of Dr. Maduka, that we should look for a credible aspirant capable to win the guber election for the PDP, shows that he has confidence on Dr. Maduka, as the only capable governorship aspirant to lead us to victory
