A former Commissioner for Information,Tourism and Public Ultilities in Imo State, Prof Vitalis Orikeze Ajumbe, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari, to use the commomeration of this year’s June 12 Democracy day event, to mend fences with the aggrieved Nigerians, particularly various agitators across the country.
Nigeria has been plagued lately by the activities of various seperatist groups in the country, such as the Indigeneous People of Biafra, IPOB in the South East, and the Odua Peoples Congress, OPC in the South West.
In a statement in Abuja, Prof Ajumbe, a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, APC, said this year’s Commomeration of June 12, offers a unique opportunity for the President to heal frayed nerves, promote efforts to ensure national healing and reconciliation.
Ajumbe said “Mr. President owes a responsibility and duty to Nigerians, to douse the tension in the country as
Nigerians are looking up to him”.
“I appeal to him, as the father of the nation, to use this commomeration of the nation’s Democracy Day, on June 12, to promote national healing”.
“Nigeria must remain as one indivisible entity, and I appeal to President Buhari to use this auspicious June 12 Democracy Day, to preach healing and mending faces and fences to boost national reconciliation.
“These agitators are his children, and as a father, he should look into their grievances and dialogue with them”
Prof Ajumbe commended the President for providing key infrastructures to the South East zone, such as the 2nd Niger Bridge, the Eastern corridor of Railways in the country, rehabilitation of several Federal Government roads including the Enugu- Onitsha and Enugu Aba express Roads.
He advised the aggrieved Nigerians to sheath their fighting tools and support the Government of President Buhari “as we are better as a united Nigeria than divided”.
He further advised them to embrace dialogue to resolve issues.
