Governor Hope Uzodimma should as a matter of priority, reconstitute the Imo State Executive Council without further delay.
For two months, the wheels of governance in Imo State has grind so slow, because the State’s highest decision making body has not been reconstituted.
Nature abhors vacuum. And it is administrative deficiency on the part of the Governor to be running the affairs of the State, without Commissioners, Special Advisers and Senior Special Assistants.
The State Executive Council is guaranteed by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which thus compels all State Governors, to ensure a fully constituted State Executive Council, is in place.
More worrisome is the absence of an Attorney General of the State, two months after the State Exco was dissolved.
The Office of the State Attorney General is sancrosanct and strategic to all legal intendments, agreements between the State and other entities.
The Supreme Court had last week ordered the Federal Government to cease forthwith, further concession of 17 oil wells to Imo State.
It was strange that the State had no Attorney General to represent it, in such a high profile matter.
However, the gains recorded by Governor Hope Uzodimma administration within a year plus in office, needs to be sustained.
Only a properly constituted State Executive Council, will ensure that the core objectives of the administration’s 3R mantra are faithfully implemented.
Policies and programmes of Government, cannot be executed alone from Government House. This sends a signal that the Governor is unconsciously becoming a Sole Administrator, which is totally unacceptable to the laws of the land.
INNONEWS understands the task involved in constituting a competent State Executive Council. But it is not an excuse for unnecessary delays, in putting one in place as soon as possible.
We also advise, strongly that the Governor should constitute a cabinet of champions, to comprise Imo men and women, who have excelled in various field of endeavour and who are, commiteed to the development of our dear State.
The Governor should also implement to the latter, a law passed by the House of Representatives, which compelled the President and State Governors to appoint disabled people to the offices of Minister and State Commissioner.
A Cabinet to comprise tested and trusted Imolites, propelled by an overdose of passion and commitment for the growth of Imo State, is certainly the way to go for the progress of the State.
