The battle for the soul of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Imo State, is yet to abate, as Governor Hope Uzodimma and his predecessor, Senator Rochas Okorocha, continue to flex muscles over who takes full charge of the party in Imo State.
The forthcoming Congresses seems to have opened a new dimension in the age long feud between Uzodimma and Okorocha, with the latter leading some APC Chieftains such as Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, former governorship aspirant, Sir Jude Ejiogu, governorship candidate of the Action Alliance in the 2019 Guber election, Uche Nwosu, to the national headquaters of the APC in Abuja.
Okorocha is also said to have the backing of some members of the House of Reps of APC extraction from Imo State, except Hon.Chike Okafor, who has pledged his allegiance to Governor Hope Uzodimma.
All past members of the Imo State House of Assembly, loyal to the Senator when he was governor, also constitute his support base, as the former governor, insisted before the national leadership of the party that his ally, Dan Nwafor, is the authentic Imo State Chairman of the APC.
Nwafor has continued to insist that he remains the authentic State Chairman of Imo APC on the basis of a subsisting Court Order.
Details of the former Governor’s discussion with some top leaders of the party at the national secretariat in Abuja were sketchy as at press time, but he was said to be furious over how he and his allies are being schemed out on issues affecting the party in the State by Governor Hope Uzodimma.
Governor Hope Uzodimma, on his part, is not resting on his oars in taking full control of the party structure in the State, an opportunity which the forthcoming Congress will provide for him.
A source said the rift in Imo APC may have been among the key reasons why the party extended the Party’s membership Revalidation exercise in the State .
Okorocha and co never took part in the exercise, a development which raised fears that he may be on his way out of the party.
But his recent moves have changed such perception as his feud with Governor Uzodimma takes a whole new dimension.
