PRESS STATEMENT

Given the wave of anticipation towards the 2023 general elections, Dr ThankGod Ezeani, PhD., a former Federal Legislator and a highly successful Nigerian Industrialist has charged the Igbos to actively participate in the recent Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voter registration exercise which is the key prerequisite to voting in many jurisdictions in order to benefit massively from the outcome of the elections.

Dr. Ezeani in a statement endorsed by the Ezeani Media Director, Mr Desmond Chijioke Nnadozie “CeeJay”, revealed the importance of active participation in electoral processes.

According to him, shunning apathy guarantees greater involvement in choices, credibility of the process, and equitable representation. He stressed further that it is an anathema to humanity and social justice, that a country above a hundred million in numerical strength, leaves the decision of who would lead them entirely in the hands of about 20 million people. He added that those who do not vote are the ones who in paradoxically elect the wrong leaders.

He encouraged Igbo young men and women of voting age residing abroad to register online and take active part in the exercise which will give an edge to the South East in deciding the outcome of 2023 general elections.

According to him, education, reorientation and sensitization of everyone, especially the rural settlers, on the necessity of the voter registration process, is obligatory, because some may have lost confidence in the legitimacy of our democratic system, and our electoral process. He added that voter registration and voting is essential for the state and also in the best interest of the voters, as it promotes democracy, majority representation, and efficiency in governance.

The former Lawmaker went ahead to berate the situation of some citizens of Igbo extraction who complain of being marginalized and shortchanged, yet fail to get involved in electoral process as their individual responsibility and contribution to correcting the political ills, as well as checkmating electoral malpractices.

He urged everyone of full age and capacity, to join hands in the rescuing of Nigeria. “It can only be through us; by our own hands shall we create the Nigeria for us”, he concluded.
