Senator Samuel Anyanwu has expressed regret that since the creation of Imo State, no person from Owerri zone has governed the State beyond 24 months.

Two governors from the zone who governed Imo- Late Senator Evan Enwerem, was in office for 22 months before the military struck in November 1993.

Emeka Ihedioha also from Owerri zone was in office as governor of Imo State for only 7 months.

In a statement signed by media aide to the Senator, Ikenna Onuoha, Senator Anyanwu said there is need for people of honour and conscience to come together to support Owerri zone, in order to sustain the zoning arrangement in the State.

He stated that while the Igbo nation are agitating against the marginalization by the Federal Government, the people of Imo State should recall the injustice meted out to Owerri zone and ensure that equity and fairness are done.

“The only thing that can sustain the unity of the State is when men of honour and conscience across the three zones of the State come together to support Owerri zone with the objective to correct the political imbalance by upholding the doctrine of equity in the State

“Men and women of conscience should speak against marginalization of Owerri zone” he said.

Senator Anyanwu stated that zoning arrangement encourage development and ensures that every component unit is at par with each other.

“Imo is one of the States with the highest number of educated persons. It will be embarrassing for outsiders to see that our State is not making any impact in areas of employment creation, health, technology, agriculture, education, public utilities and quality road construction” he noted.
