A watchdog group based in Imo State, the Imo Awareness Coalition, IAC, has advised Governor Hope Uzodimma to “step up the pace of governance in Imo State, by ensuring that the wheel of government does not go so slow”
In it’s quarterly report on the state of affairs in Imo State, the Coalition said Governor Uzodimma, should “cease forthwith, further delay in appointing his Commissioners, Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants and other appointees, in order to jump start the vehicle of governance in the State which has been on a go slow in the past five months”
The report made available to INNONEWS and signed by Fidelis Echendu, spokesman of the Coalition, said “the delay in repositioning the machinery of government for greater efficiency and service delivery to the people, is capable of making nonsense of whatever gains recorded by the administration thus far in office”
“Governance is like a vehicle with a driver and passengers. If the driver and passengers abandon the vehicle, the vehicle is bound to be parked and if parked for a long period, may develop faults.
It continued “key sectors in the State such as Education, Health, Agriculture will remain in limbo, because no one is in charge. This is not good for the economic growth and development in the State recovering from global economic shocks which originated from the Covid 19 pandemic
“Politics even when the next election cycle is two years away from now, has taken centre stage, as Governor Uzodimma appears to be giving more attention to intra party affairs of his political party, the All Progressive Congress, APC, than issues relating to governance in Imo State.
“We call for concerted efforts on the part of the government to devote more time to address issues of public concern such as flood which ravage parts of Owerri whenever there is a downpour.
“The balloon technology as commendable as it is, to ease flood in the State capital, has to be either enhanced or improved on, to curtail the menace of flood which has wrecked devastating havoc to Owerri residents.
“Contractors handling key projects or critical infrastructure in the State such as roads should be told to expedite action while government fufils it’s contractual obligations to the contractors.
The report stated “The 80 percent sucess recorded in settling workers salaries and pensioners in Imo State, should be sustained while immediate measures are taken to ensure that no legitimate worker or pensioner in the State, suffer undue non payment of his or her dues, salaries and entitlements”
The IAC said security of lives and property should continue to remain priority for the State government , urging the State Governor “to take more proactive steps to fight insecurity in the State, by giving more attention to reported senseless killings in Orlu area
“This administration must show greater commitment to the plight of the people. A government with a human face will be much more desirable” the report stated.
