There are moves to get some top leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to cross over to the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC in Imo State.

The move is said to be spearheaded by a top official in Governor Hope Uzodimma’s administration and another top chieftain of the APC in the State.

Governor Uzodinma is said to have advised his loyalists to make more friends than enemies for his administration.

Based on the foregoing, some PDP chieftains in Imo State have been approached for possible defection to the ruling party, a deft political move designed to weaken the leading opposition party in the State ahead of the 2023 general elections.

A source who is privy to the moves told INNONEWS “In politics, poaching is allowed and we will continue to poach the opposition until we have a good number of them on our side.

“Contacts have been established with some of them. Usually we do not speak about it in the media.

The source refused to provide details of how many PDP leaders or chieftains in the State have been approached for possible switch over to the APC.

He however added “It’s work in progress. For now, I will conceal the names of those we have reached out to. But so far, so good. We move.

He continued “By December, there shall be harvest in our party. We will reap from our efforts. Some top members of the opposition will decamp to the APC.

Recently, the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Ogu Bundu Nwadike, decamped to the APC.

In his letter of resignation, he cited personal reasons for quitting the leading opposition party in the State.

Last year, former State Chairman of PDP, Charles Ezekwem and five others left the party for the APC .

The PDP had won the 2019 governorship election in Imo State.

Seven months later, Governor Emeka Ihedioha of the PDP was replaced with Senator Hope Uzodimma of the APC by the Supreme Court.
