The All Progressive Congress, APC, has been told that political heavyweights decamping from other political parties to it’s fold are not determinant factors that will decide the outcome or winner of the governorship election in Anambra State.

The APC had lately witnessed the entrance into it’s fold, the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Nkem Okeke and some members of the State House of Assembly from the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA.

Senator Stella Oduah of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had also joined the APC ahead of the Anambra governorship election scheduled to hold on November 6, 2021. Oduah represents Anambra North in the Senate and was former Minister of Aviation in the administration of Goodluck Jonathan.

Mr.Godson Okonkwo, a political analyst based in Awka, Anambra state capital, argued that those joining the APC “are mere political lightweights who do not have the capacity to sway the outcome of the governorship election in favour of the APC”

He continued “Political big names have never won elections for any political party in Anambra State. Governorship elections held the past in the State were determined by the people who are politically opinionated and whose votes determine the outcome of elections. These factors still exist today and will also be at play in the coming governorship election”

He said those who decide who becomes Anambra state governor at the governorship election are market women, road sweepers, artisans, the clergy, town unions, public and civil servants, spare parts dealers, farmers, students, traders and even motor park touts etc.

“These people constitute the voting population in Anambra State and their votes decide who wins the governorship election. These are the people that matter during elections in the state

“It has been the trend in the state for a long time. Big names have have never influenced who wins the governorship election in Anambra State. And if electronic transmission of results take effect, then the votes of these category of people will surely count. They are the ultimate deciders” he concluded.
