The Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Imo State chapter of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Marcellinus Nlemigbo, is in desperate moves to keep his job as chairman of the party.

With the state congress of the party expected to hold on October 16, Nlemigbo is said to be hoping to continue as Chairman of the APC in the state, this time on permanent basis.

INNONEWS was informed that Governor Hope Uzodimma will be the ultimate decider on who leads the party in the state as leader of the party in the State.

Despite opposition from the camp of former governor of Imo State and senator representing Orlu Zone in the senate, Senator Rochas Okorocha, Uzodimma’s camp had succeeded to produce the party’s executives from the ward to local government levels during the last party congress.

With the State Congress fast approaching, Governor Uzodimma is said to be keeping close to his chest, who will emerge Chairman and other exco members of the party.

However, there are feelers that the present caretaker committee members may metamorphse through consensus the state executives of the party. INNONEWS could not confirm this assumption.

Nlemigbo, experienced in party administration, having chaired the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the past before he crossed over to the ruling APC, may be up against two key allies of the governor who are suspected to be interested in the party’s number one job.

Newspaper reports in Owerri had claimed that a former Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Godfrey Dikeocha and a former Commissioner of Environment, Iyke Njoku are interested in Nlemigbo’s job.

It was unclear if the duo had purchased forms to signal their readiness to join the contest.

A top leader of the party in Owerri Zone who was fingered to take over the number one party job is said to have dropped his intention.

He told this newsmen on condition of anonymity “The job of Chairman of the APC in Imo State is the prerogative of the Governor, who is the leader of the party. He decides. So, for me, there is no need buying the forms when there is no sufficient green-light to say I will emerge the State Chairman of the party”
