A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Imo State, Hon Kizito Nwachukwu has said Governor Hope Uzodimma may lose some of his political foot-soldiers to the opposition, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the State, if he fails to engage them effectively for the good of his administration.

Speaking to newsmen in Owerri, Nwachukwu said many of those who supported Uzodimma before his declaration as governor of Imo State by the Supreme Court on January 14, 2020, have been abandoned or relegated to the background.

He said the governor also faces the risk of losing such loyalists and foot-soldiers, including his unrepentant political followers to the opposition, if he fails to accommodate them or reassure them of his desire to run an inclusive government.

He said “Majority of those who worked for the governor during and after the 2019 governorship election in Imo State have not been adequately rewarded in terms of political patronage and reward. It seems only a tiny few are benefiting.

“A greater majority have been kept in the cooler. With 2023 elections around the corner, they may be tempted to join the opposition which is certainly lurking around the corner to poach the aggrieved and disenchanted followers” Nwachukwu noted.

He further alleged that Governor Uzodimma has been hijacked by architects of his Camp Hope team, the governor’s political machinery

“No one will tell him that most of his political foot-soldiers are lamenting, complaining and murmuring. They feel they have been abandoned and have not been adequately rewarded for their toil prior to his emergence as governor of the State. He should endeavour to implement his directive that all political organizations which worked for him during the elections should come together” Nwachukwu said.

He noted that even defectors from the opposition PDP to the APC have been not been carried along or given a sense of belonging in the present government.

He advised Governor Hope Uzodimma to broaden his administration by reconstituting his cabinet, via appointing Commissioners, Special Advisers, SAs and Senior Special Assistants, SSAs, to aid him effectively propel the wheels of his administration.
