House Of Drama: Six Lawmakers ‘Remove’ Imo Speaker

In a dramatic twist, and clear case of melodrama, six members of the Imo State House of Assemby, Monday, removed the Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Paul Emeziem.

He was replaced by Hon.Kennedy Ibe, a two term member who represents Obowo State Constituency.

Iwuanyanwu, the suspended Deputy Speaker was reinstated.

The drama came after 18 lawmakers had last week impeached the Deputy Speaker on grounds of incompetence.

A source described the latest development in the House as “a melodrama” wondering how six members could impeach the Speaker.

“A suspended member, or principal official of the House cannot be part of any process of electing a new Speaker” he said referring the involvement of the suspended Deputy Speaker in the sack of the Speaker.

INNONEWS had exclusively reported last week that there were plans to bring back Iwuanyanwu as Deputy Speaker of the House.

The plot, said to be backed by powerful forces in the state government, came to play on Monday when stern looking security operatives stormed the Assembly Complex and prevented the Speaker, Paul Emeziem from entering the Assembly premises.

Governor Hope Uzodimma was due to meet the warring lawmakers today before the latest drama.
