BY ANULI EKEZIE, UMUAHIA

A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress APC in Abia State, Hon Jeremiah Okezie, has said the defeat of the party in the just concluded Anambra State governorship election is not a death sentence for the ruling party in the South East geo political zone.

Okezie who spoke to INNONEWS in Umuahia, said there are rather lessons to be learnt from the party’s loss in the polls.

The APC candidate in the governorship election, Senator Andy Uba had placed a distant third, trailed behind Valentine Ozigbo of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the eventual winner of the polls, Prof Charles Soludo of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA.

Reacting on the outcome of the election, Okezie said party members should not despair or wallow in the belief that the loss of the party in the Anambra guber polls implies that the APC has been rejected in Igboland.

He said the circumstances which led to the loss of the party in Anambra State is not a secret, as testimonies abound on how the standard of the election in some areas in the state fell short of expectations.

He said the APC led Federal Government has performed creditably in the South East, courtesy of some of the landmark projects embarked on in the region by President Muhammadu Buhari led APC administration.

His words “The second Niger Bridge, construction and reconstruction of some federal roads in the South East, are eloquent testimonies of the considerable attention given to the South East by the present administration”

He said the governing APC remains the party to beat in the South East zone, stating that Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State deserves accolades rather than villification for leading the party’s campaign council in Anambra State despite the enormous challenges confronting the party before the election.

He called on party members in the South East to remain committed to the ideals of the party as the next political dispensation draws near.
