As the 2023 presidential election draws close, the Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, the youth wing of Ohaneze Ndigbo, has issued a 30 days ultimatum to some prominent Igbos to declare their intention to aspire for the presidency and open their campaign offices.

The National President of the Youth Council, Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka,  who spoke to newsmen on the sidelines of Igbo Nsukka Annual Programme held in honour of the Late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, at the Shehu Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, said it is regrettable that barely 10 months to the primaries of political parties, there is absence of any presidential campaign office of any Igbo in the region.

He called on prominent Igbos, such as Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim, former Imo State Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha, former Abia State Governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, former Presidential hopeful, Dr. Kingsley Moghalu, to join the presidential contest without further delay.

He said “It’s a fact the Southeast has a cream of credible aspirants who are bent on rebuilding Nigeria in the interest of every tribe and zone across the country.

“Therefore, to achieve this long walk to democratic freedom the likes of Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Anyim Pius Anyim, Rochas Okorocha, Kingsley Moghalu, Hope Uzodimma, Sam Ohuabunwa, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Orji Uzor Kalu, Dave Umahi, Ken Nnamani, Emeka Nwajiuba, Peter Obi, Capt. Casmir Okafor and others to lead the way without fear, and hit the ground rolling like their counterparts in the West and North.”

“Presidential election project is tasking and requires long-term preparation to achieve a desirable end.

Continuing, he said, “In as much the political calculation imbibed with social justice and equity favours the Southeastern presidential aspirants in Nigeria, it’s very vital that the interested aspirants should do the needful, and ensure adequate preparation because power is not given, power is taken.

Comrade Igboayaka urged other aspirants from other zones of the country to consider the survival of Nigeria first beyond 2023 and eschew their personal political interest, stressing that a Nigerian president of Southeast extraction is ideal for Nigeria to recuperate from its present comatose state.

“Nigeria is like a ship hit by tornado. The likes of Bola Tinubu, Yemi Osibanjo, Atiku Abubakar, Tambuwal, kwankwaso and others should give way in the spirit of Nigeria socio-economic cum political survival, for the South east to take the ship and navigate Nigeria to a new hope of political survival before it sinks.

“Nigeria needs a president with indept knowledge of economic transformation, religious tolerance and most importantly, a detribalized intellectual that will rebuild trust and confidence among Nigerians” he said.
