There is a plot to reinstate the impeached Deputy Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Hon Chyna Iwuanyanwu, competent sources told INNONEWS.

Iwuanyanwu who represents Nwangele State Constituency was impeached on Tuesday, November 2, 2021.

Speaker of the House, Paul Emeziem had okayed his suspension after 18 members of the House approved his impeachment and six suspended members recalled.

Some of the reasons given by the lawmakers for impeaching Iwuanyanwu as contained in their resolution is for bringing “the House to disrepute by his lack of leadership, gross incompetence, and high handedness”

According the lawmakers, the resolution to sack Iwuanyanwu “is pursuant to Order II Rule 18 of the Rules of the Imo State House of Assembly, as amended”

The House which has degenerated into crisis after the impeachment of the Deputy Speaker is still boiling with strong indications that there are plots to reinstate him.

The House sitting expected to hold on Thursday failed, sending clear signals that the House is in distress after Hon Iwuanyanwu was sent packing.

Paid writers of the impeached Deputy Speaker had invaded the social media, accusing the Speaker, Paul Emeziem of financial inducement from the opposition which made him mastermind the fall of Hon. Iwuanyanwu.

The allegations were denied by the Speaker’s aide, Mr. Collins Osuji.

“We wish to state categorically that even though the removal of Hon Iwuanyanwu had received widespread jubilation from well meaning Imolites and beyond, it was never a personal decision of the Speaker” part of the statement stated.

This newspaper was informed that the impeached Deputy Speaker is not resting on his oars after his impeachment, with his sympathizers alleging that the process of his impeachment did not follow Due Process.

Governor Hope Uzodimma is alleged to be sympathetic to Iwuanyanwu, with the latter adjudged the “governor’s eye” in the State legislature.

A meeting between the Governor with members of the State Assembly is expected to hold on Monday, November 8.

Uzodimma is currently busy with the Anambra State governorship election which takes place on Saturday.

The meeting is expected to afford the Governor the opportunity to resolve the lingering crisis rocking the House.

An Assembly source said loyalists of the ousted of the Deputy Speaker have continued to boast that he will be reinstated even if 26 members of the House sign against him.

A lawmaker who spoke on condition of anonymity said “This will be the biggest legislative abracadabra and a slur on the House if a suspended principal officer is reinstated after being impeached by the House members.

“Governor Uzodimma would be ridiculing himself, the state legislature if he tows the path of seeking the reinstatement of his political godson and ally. As a parliamentarian well versed on legislative matters, he knows better and should not be seen over meddling or try to over turn the decision of the House” he said.

State Governors in Nigeria do have firm hold of the state legislature despite the latter’s independence status.
