Imo Baptist Conference of the Nigerian Convention has urged government to create employment opportunities for citizens by ensuring that infrastructure such as electricity, good road, healthcare centers, water, quality and affordable education including social justice are fixed and maintained to forestall crime, violence and insecurity in the state.
The Church gave the charge in a communique signed by Rev Uzoma Uzoechi, President, Imo Baptist Conference, Rev Lucky Okereafor, Chairman, Imo Baptist Conference, Hon Moses Uvie- Odeghe, Public Relations Officer and Rev Shola Tunde Odejimi, Moderator, Imerienwe Baptist Association, during the 12th Annual Session of Imo Baptist Conference held at First Baptist Church, Imerienwe, Ngor-Okpala LGA, Imo State, last week.
The communique stressed that “government should give attention to the deplorable state of our roads. Security of life and property should be given priority attention. The social injustice that is so very prevalent in our system should be addressed with utmost trust earned from the populace. There is urgent need to address the growing population of unemployed youths through job creation and a robust economy in order to forestall more criminal tendencies plaguing the society”.
Rev Uzoechi reflected that the Church has maintained active participation and representative with Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) hence in July 2021 the Imo State government collaborated with CAN to hold a prayer session (Imo Prays) to which the Imo Baptist Conference President was its Planning Committee Chairman, noting he had featured actively in other ecumenical fellowship and interfaith gatherings of which the Church was well represented and recognized, saying new branches of the Church have been set up to advance the worship of God.
The Conference which dwelt on “Building a Fulfilled Church by being Heavenly Minded” as its theme, the Conference admonished people to set their minds on the things of God, not on the things of earth so that more riches and divine security will continue to be their hallmarks.
The Conference which featured songs and drama and other entertainment activities had Rev Peters Nwokocha and Rev Light Ugbede as Quests Speakers who admonished the Conference to keep faith while advancing the work of God and cause of humanity for enhanced peace, happiness and comfort.
