2023/24 Imo Guber: Ihedioha Told To Shun Alliance With Okorocha’s Camp

Former Governor of Imo State, Hon Emeka Ihedioha, has been advised to shun any alliance with the camp of former governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha.

Ihedioha is reportedly staging a return to Government House, Owerri, in 2023/24, after being sacked by the Supreme Court in January 2020, which had replaced him with Senator Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressive Congress, APC.

There has been reports in the media that Okorocha’s political foot-soldiers led by his son in law and former Chief of Staff, Uche Nwosu, may cross over to the PDP ahead of the 2023 polls, having lost out the APC structure in Imo State, to Governor Hope Uzodimma.

According to the reports, Okorocha is expected to remain in the APC, where he is reported to forge ahead with his presidential bid, but some of his loyalists, including Nwosu, three members of the House of Representatives from Imo State- Hon Paschal Obi, Hon Ugonna Ozuruigbo and Hon Uju Kingsley, may proceed to the PDP.

Speaking to INNONEWS in Owerri, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Imo State, Hon Declan Igwe, said Ihedioha and the PDP in the state should avoid any political deal, understanding or alliance with the camp of Senator Rochas Okorocha, who represents Imo West Senatorial District in the Senate.

He said “Ihedioha’s alliance with Okorocha/Uche Nwosu camp will contaminate PDP’s chances of wining the governorship in Imo State. Such alliance will be detrimental to the quest of the opposition party to take over the seat of governorship of the state in 2023″

“How would Ihedioha and PDP explain to Imolites that Okorocha which he vilified, would be a strategic partner to ensure the PDP unseats the APC government of Governor Hope Uzodimma?

Igwe said the PDP is in pole position to make an impressive outing in the governorship contest, due to the flaws and inept governance of the APC led Uzodimma administration, but cautioned that the latter would cruise to power if the PDP goes into an unholy alliance with Okorocha’s group.

“The party must resist any form of contamination, by resisting the urge to have a handshake with the Okorocha camp. An alliance with Okorocha concerning the Imo governorship election is doomed and bound to fail” he said.
