A socio- political group, South East Coalition for Good Governance, SECG, has advised South East politicians in the All Progressives Congress, APC, nursing the ambition to become Nigeria’s President in 2023, to follow the footsteps of former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Tinubu had on Monday met President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said he informed the Nigerian leader of his intention to contest for the presidency in 2023.

Reacting to the development, SECG in a statement in Enugu signed by its Publicity Secretary, Eze Bernard, said Tinubu has kicked started the presidential race in the APC by informing President Buhari of his intention, “ thus Igbo leaders in the governing party who are nursing the ambition to succeed Buhari in 2023 should equally tow the same path”

“Tinubu has signaled that the presidential race in APC has begun by informing Buhari , who is the leader of the party.

“This is the time Igbos, who are in the APC and who believe that they can emerge the party’s presidential candidate in the ruling party, to step forward by making their ambition open and known. They should equally inform the President and begin adequate consultations and preparations.

SECG said it is displeased “with the sloppy approach of South East presidential hopefuls in the APC towards their presidential intention. It is strange that none of them have deemed it appropriate to come out of their shell and declare their presidential aspiration.

“Last week, we read in the media that the Vice President, Yemi Osibanjo, visited President Buhari and informed him of his intention to contest for the presidency in 2023. Why are Igbo presidential aspirants in the APC shying away or developing cold feet? We implore them to take a bold step by informing the President of their ambition.

“It is strange that only Former Senate President, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, is the only Igbo to have openly declared his presidential ambition on the platform of a major political party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. We call on other Igbo sons who are desirous to vie for the Presidency to come forward” the statement stated.
