Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, Tuesday, joined the All Progressives Congress, APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, as among presidential aspirants in the race for the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

Umahi’s entry into the presidential contest, came barely twenty four hours Tinubu had met President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.

Tinubu said he informed the President of his intention to run for the Presidency, which he described as a life time ambition.

A socio political group, the South East Coalition for Good Governance, SECG, had on Monday advised South East politicians in the APC desirous to vie for the Presidency, to follow the foot-steps of Tinubu by equally informing President Buhari of their presidential ambition.

The group encouraged Igbo political leaders in the APC, who are desirous to suceed President Buhari ,to step forward and declare their ambition.

Umahi who said he has informed President Buhari of his presidential ambition had decamped from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the governing All Progressives Congress, APC.

The Ebonyi State Governor who spoke to newsmen shortly after a meeting with President Buhari at the State House, said he stands a chance to emerge the party’s presidential candidate if the APC ticket is thrown open.

He said God would be the ultimate decider, in apparent reference to other big political figures such as Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who has signaled his intention to run for President on the platform of the APC.

Tinubu’s declaration had stirred the nation’s political landscape on Tuesday, setting the stage for the jostle of the APC presidential ticket.

Governor Umahi joins former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim, as the second Igbo political leader, to join the race for the 2023 presidential contest.

Anyim is seeking the nomination of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP as its presidential candidate.

The duo are from Ebonyi State.
