2023: Top Imo Political Bigwigs Eye APGA

Top political bigwigs in Imo State are eying the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA as the 2023 general elections draws near.

The party, competent sources told INNONEWS, has become the beautiful bride for top level politicians, both from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the All Progressives Congress, APC in the State.

This newspaper was informed that a First Lady, married to one of the powerful governors in one of the States in the South West zone, but who hails from Imo State, a serial governorship aspirant who has been in the guber race since 1998, a former governorship candidate in the 2019 governorship election, including some former and serving members of the Federal and State legislature, are keeping tabs on APGA in Imo State.

The source said “Anyone ignoring APGA in the next political dispensation is doing so, at his or her own peril. By the time the hub of Imo politicians join the party, both the APC and the PDP in Imo State will be in dilemma

“As it is now, the party has opened it’s doors for anyone interested in the party to come forth and join.

“Sooner or later, APGA in the State will become very energized to sweep not just the governorship of the State, but all elective positions in 2023, considering the increasing number of politicians who want to join the party.

The turn around in APGA in Imo State, sources say, is hinged on the proactive steps and measures introduced by the State Chairman, John Iwuala, who has successfully repositioned the party since he assumed office.

Under Iwuala, APGA put up an impressive performance in Imo North Senatorial election held last year despite widespread irregularities that dominated the polls won by the All Progressives Congress, APC.

And to sigal it’s readiness to be a major contender in 2023, the party last week indicated it’s preparedness to win the Ngor Okpala bye election scheduled to hold on February 26.

It elected Christopher Nwiwu, via voice vote as it’s candidate for the bye election.

A chieftain of the party who witnessed the Primary said “It was a rancour free exercise and for the first time the party mobilized financial support for our candidate, a sharp deviation from the practice in other political parties, where candidates are seen as cash cows and carry the burden of the party
